Danish art studio seeks sustainable manufacturing partner for handmade Christmas ornaments
A Copenhagen-based art studio with a strong foundation in illustration, ceramics, and sculptural design has gained growing interest for its handmade Christmas ornaments. Each piece is individually handcrafted using papier-mâché, resulting in unique and artistic decorations. Due to increasing demand, the studio seeks to transition from in-house, manual production (currently capped at around 500 ornaments per season) to a more scalable and sustainable production model. The studio is particularly interested in partners who can replicate the handmade aesthetic using sustainable, recycled, or ethically sourced materials. Ideal materials include, but are not limited to, papier-mâché, ceramics, glass, or durable bioplastics. Aesthetic fidelity and artisanal quality must be preserved in the production process. Current production methods are physically demanding and not cost-efficient when selling to retailers, as the retail margin significantly reduces profit. In order to make the product viable for wholesale, production costs must be reduced. The studio is primarily open to partnerships with: - manufacturers experienced in small-batch, sustainable casting techniques. - duppliers who can deliver partially-finished components. If the opportunity arises there could also be an interest in partnerships with: - vnvestors or co-owners interested in scaling up the brand internationally. - distributors and retailers interested in expanding the product's reach. Initial collaboration would focus on manufacturing but could later include joint ventures around distribution, sales, or investment. Advantages and innovations The ornaments combine visual storytelling and Scandinavian design with sustainable values. Their aesthetic uniqueness, rooted in fine art and handcraft, sets them apart in a market dominated by mass production. The goal is to retain these artistic and ethical qualities while achieving scalability through smart production partnerships. Technical Specification or Expertise Sought Experience in small-series or artisanal manufacturing. Ability to work with eco-friendly and/or recycled materials. Familiarity with casting or molding of decorative items in paper, ceramic, glass, or plastic. Price point target: to be discussed with potential partners Expected role of a partner The requested partner should act as a production collaborator capable of manufacturing Christmas ornaments based on the client's existing handmade designs. The partner should: - assist in identifying and selecting appropriate sustainable materials (such as papier-mâché, ceramics, glass, or eco-friendly plastics) suitable for small- to medium-scale production. - replicate the handcrafted look and feel of the original ornaments through casting or other artisanal methods, with high attention to detail and visual fidelity. - provide cost-efficient production solutions, aiming for a target cost to be discussed upon interest. - ensure ethical and environmentally responsible production practices, including fair labor conditions and minimal environmental impact. - be open to iterative product development, working closely with the studio to test prototypes, improve quality, and finalize production methods. - optionally, contribute to distribution or investment, especially if the partner has access to retail networks or interest in co-owning and expanding the brand. The cooperation may evolve over time to include joint development, packaging, and even logistics, depending on mutual interest.
