Specification of the biopolymer packaging:
- Type and volume
Cosmetic jar, nominal volume 30 ml (considered is also 50 ml, 100 ml in the next wave). Intended for universal ointment/cream (anhydrous balm and oil in water emulsion)
- Material
PHA-based biopolymer (e.g. PHB/PHBV), suitable for injection moulding. Fully compostable at home (OK compost HOME/TÜV Austria certification or equivalent). Free of PLA (polylactic acid), free of fossil plastics, free of SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) according to REACH. Suitable for cosmetic use - resistant to fats/oils, waxes, essences (0-2% EO), pH approx. 4.5-7.5.
- Cap and gasket
Screw cap (same material or compatible), sealing insert/gasket (TPE/TPU or other inert material). Leakage requirement for oily bases (no leakage/oil map). Recommended tightening torque and screw-thread tolerance.
- Visuals and Surface
Colours: "natural" (ivory) and white; dyeing in mass enabled. Surface: slightly matte/velvety, suitable for screen printing. Printing: 1-2 colours screen printing. Optional watermark/logo embossing on the lid (if technology allows).
- Dimensions and ergonomics
Preferably low profile "balm jar" (good grip, wide neck). Internal geometry adapted for easy emptying of the product (rounded corners). Provision of drawings with tolerances, neck/thread (standard/your specification) is asked for.
- Technical and safety parameters
Stability: storage –20 °C to +45 °C, short-term up to 50–55 °C (transport). Resistance to oil phase (fats, triglycerides, squalene, etc.), without degradation or softening of the walls. Relevant migration tests for cosmetics and declaration of conformity (EU 1223/2009 – packaging compatibility). Data on WVTR/O₂TR (indicatively) and mechanical strength for e-commerce logistics.
- Sustainability and end of life
Declaration of home compostability (12-18 months in normal garden compost conditions) and biodegradation without microplastics. Secondary use/recycling options, recommendations for labelling (pictograms, QR).
- Quality and production
Dimensional tolerances, visual standard (AQL), leak check. Typical defects and their limits, batch marking (batch/lot). Possibility of hygienic packaging of components (clean rooms).
- Business and logistics information (for pricing)
MOQ (minimum order quantity) and price levels for 5,000 / 15,000 / 30,000 pcs (cup, lid, seal, printing separately). Non-recurring costs: screens, production start-up, dyeing in the mass. Delivery times (previews/samples, pre-production, mass production), capacity/monthly output. Packaging for transport (cartons, layers, pallet), storage recommendations. Possibility of supplying samples (natural + white, with/without printing) for a quick compatibility test.
