Two billion trees are cut down every year. A German SME found a way to make wood without cutting trees and without using hazardous substances, such as formaldehyde. The German SME operates at the intersection of advanced materials, circular economy and sustainable construction, focusing on the development and scaling of bio-based material solutions. The company converts agricultural residues into high performance wood panels using a proprietary, energy efficient production process. The resulting materials are formaldehyde free, low carbon and designed to integrate seamlessly into existing manufacturing and construction systems. This enables a circular value chain that links agricultural waste streams with industrial and construction applications. The technology has been validated through pilot-scale production and laboratory testing. In parallel, the company has developed a growing commercial pipeline with real estate developers, modular construction companies and furniture manufacturers. Current activities focus on scaling production capacity, strengthening industrial partnerships and accelerating market entry across Europe and selected GCC markets. The company offers the following solutions and capabilities: • Bio-based, formaldehyde-free wood panels for construction and furniture applica-tions • Proprietary material technology enabling low-carbon, circular manufacturing • Scalable solutions for the valorisation of agricultural residues Advantages and innovations: The company offers several key advantages compared to conventional solutions on the market: • The product offers a significantly lower cost of approximately $300 per m3 compared to around $450 per m3 for competing materials • It is made entirely from agricultural waste, eliminating the need for cut trees or wood chips and supporting a fully circular, eco-friendly material approach • The product uses bio-based resins that are safe for both human health and the environment, unlike competitors that rely on urea formaldehyde, which is classified as carcinogenic • It is completely formaldehyde-free, while conventional alternatives typically contain formaldehyde • Production is highly energy efficient, requiring only around 160 kWh, which corresponds to approximately 84% less energy consumption compared to competitors us-ing around 1000 kWh • The material is E0 compliant, in contrast to many competing products that do not meet this standard • The product has a negative carbon footprint, actively capturing CO₂, whereas conventional materials generally have a positive footprint and release CO₂ Expected role of a partner: The company is looking for partners to collaborate as long-term industrial, commercial or development partners. Partners should have expertise in sustainable materials or advanced manufacturing. Possible roles include: • Industrial manufacturers support pilot production and industrial scaling • Construction companies enable testing and validation in real construction environments • Material distributors / commercial partners provide market access and distribution in European markets • Research institutions contribute to joint R&D activities, as well as testing and certification processes • Partners may also engage in potential licensing, joint venture or strategic partnership arrangements
