Danish company seeks PPWR-compliant recyclable packaging solutions for food supplements
From 1 January 2030, all packaging placed on the EU market must be recyclable in an economically sustainable manner under the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Packaging must be designed for recycling, be sortable, and be recyclable at scale using existing or realistic technologies. Traditional packaging for food supplements — such as alu/PVC or alu/PVDC blisters and multi‑material jars and closures — will face significant compliance challenges due to limited recyclability and mixed‑material structures. To prepare for this regulatory shift, the Danish company is seeking innovative, recyclable packaging solutions suitable for food supplements, including hard‑gel capsules (size 0 and 00) and soft‑gel capsules (oval 10 to oblong 20). Desired solutions include recyclable blister materials, mono‑material jars and closures, or alternative formats compatible with established recycling streams. Packaging must provide adequate barrier performance (e.g., WVTR and oxygen barrier) to ensure product stability and comply with EU food‑contact material legislation. Industrial‑scale production capability is required. The company sell tablets, health supplements etc. on various markets and is open to long‑term cooperation, including supply agreements or technical collaboration. Advantages and innovations: Opportunity to collaborate on future‑proof packaging aligned with PPWR Strong market demand for recyclable mono‑material solutions Clear specifications and openness to co‑development Supports sustainability goals and regulatory compliance Long‑term cooperation potential with a growing European supplement company As in the example document, partners benefit from “initial small‑scale production [that] allows for quality verification before scaling” Technical Specification or Expertise Sought: Recyclable blister pack materials (mono‑material or compatible with recycling systems) Recyclable jars and closures with suitable barrier properties Compliance with EU food‑contact material regulations Packaging suitable for hard‑gel and soft‑gel capsules Demonstrated WVTR/OTR barrier performance Industrial‑scale production capability Experience with PPWR‑aligned design (separability, sortability, recyclability) Expected role of a partner: The partner should be able to supply or co‑develop PPWR‑compliant, fully recyclable packaging for food supplements. This includes providing mono‑material or recycling‑stream‑compatible blister and jar solutions with suitable WVTR and oxygen barrier performance, compliant with EU food‑contact regulations. The partner is expected to support testing, validation, and documentation, and be open to supplier agreements or technical cooperation, including co‑development of new recyclable blister films, barrier materials, or mono‑material closures.
